Unless I am more confused than normal, you are "the member formerly known as TranterUK".
If I am correct in that, your wife would be "Mrs. T" for "Mrs. Tranter".
Since you are now ShooterUK, should she not also get a name change, to Mrs. S, for Shooter?

Time to verify that all parameter lights are functioning as they should be. Also, please verify that smoke and CO detection units have a fresh battery.

Since you are now ShooterUK, should she not also get a name change, to Mrs. S, for Shooter? Your logic is reasonable, you are correct. I should have realised. Funny old world. I have switched from forum to forum and until now have kept the Tranter name, as in my old firm. Mrs S it is then, who as it happens gave me a wonderful early birthday surprise. On Sunday she told me she had several Brazilians coming for lunch. Knowing how much I dislike guests and especially people I dont know. Anyway when the door went I answered it to find two of my favourite friends and their young son. I was confused and thought they had just popped round at a bad time, us expecting guests. But there were no Brazilians. I had a great time and we talked for hours. He is a research scientist and loves to share, he also explains things slowly for me, helping me understand things far beyond my scientific ability. Which to be fair is almost non exsistant. I love to listen and get a tremendous satisfaction when I grasp something and can guess ahead a little. So, tip of the day...make time for friends. Real friends a few and far between.

Three or four times a year we have a party. Most of the people are old friends, like some I have known 60 years, many over 50 and some only 30 or so. Great fun! There is nothing like hearing a story from 50 years ago. It is truly the best time of the year. I don't make many friends, but when I do, I keep them. A true friend is a gift from God.

At risk of sounding soppy, I think of you Red as a friend. I think having chatted, got an idea of your character, thoughts, opinions. Your work with the kids and questionable sense of humour I know enough to decide. You join a very, very small group. Of course, if you knew me better you would understand why its so small. The group of friends.

The group of friends. Thank you, I regard you as a friend as well. One cannot have too many friends. Many view my 'sense of humor' as an affliction also. I am an acquired taste. But to be honest, my personality is not often viewed as an attribute. I do love working with kids, I receive ten-fold whatever good I do with them. I have trouble making friends. I greatly value the Golden Rule, but my value of the truth (and lack of tact) is not often shared and puts many off.

Shooter/Tranter, the only folk that would call the admission of friendship "soppy" - are those unfortunate and unworthy souls who have never had a real and true 'friend'. I have always believed that to have a 'friend' one must 'be' a friend. Someone to be counted, and be counted upon. Someone worthy of trust, and trusting enough to do so. Someone who unquestionably has your back, and yet will tell you when you're outta line. In instances, a friend un-hesitatingly will step between you and harm's way. Rare birds, all.
Red14, you don't have trouble making friends. You are just one of the rare few that understands what a friend really 'is', and you don't elect to cheapen the word by cheapening your standards. Let those who don't make the grade grumble. You know your path, and you follow it. Lives are not measured by buildings, bridges, or laws bearing a name, but by the effect of how a life is lived. Your positive effect on young folk is immensurable.

Roof Gutter Cleaning An onerous task.......
Too cheap to install those gutter-guard screens, so I hand-clean these beasts every autumn. To make it easier, I purchased a medium quality blunt-nosed trawl with a sturdy handle. I then measured the bottom 'flat' of the gutter, and duplicated the angles and dimensions of the gutter on my garage anvil. I then bent the handle of my "gutter-trawl" so that it off-sets away from the roof shingles edge.
Now I clean the gutters with a custom fitted scooper, greatly simplifing the task. A 5-gallon bucket suspended on my ladder provides easy removal of debris.
I use strong gloves for fhe task, also.

Helps to have a list AND the will-power to adhere when visiting the grocer. Esp, if one hasn't eaten anything for the day. Both are needed, it seems. Else, one might return home with three jars of green olives.

Else, one might return home with three jars of green olives. I've been told, and, I've told my children, "NEVER grocery shop when you are hungry." I, sometimes, don't follow my own advice. Pops

Maybe too late for some, and probably preaching to the choir. . . . A) If you've not been test running your generator every month, might want to run it for a bit under load, check the oil, etc. Make certain you've fresh fuel on hand. B) Find your snow shovels, check their handles. C) Locate your tire chains. D) Ice melt, if you use it. I don't, I use cat grit. E) Check your batteries, and make certain you've spares. F) If you depend on propane for emergency cooking, verify the fuel levels in your tanks. G) Relating to #A, above; check your feed cords for your generator for faults and abrasions. H) Antifreeze for the engine in your vehicles, and a quantity of anti-ice for your windscreens! I) Test or verify your perimeter or security lights are functioning as intended. Much easier to change when the temperature is high and the winds low.
There are always to 'fine-tune' for each weather region, mine is for the lower end of the Tennessee Valley (this winter, anyway!).

I generally use granulated fertilizer for ice melt. Easier on the plants and grass. If you have more than one vehicle, start each of them once a month and keep battery float chargers on the ones that don't get used regularly. (I just spent a couple of days trying to start my F150 because I neglected the once-a-month run and it was parked where I don't have power for the charger.) Pull your car jack out and check it for operation. Especially those that are stored under the hood.
