If possible, I would like to have a balanced and civil exchange on the subject. I have questions that have on occasion, when talking with some Americans have attracted abuse and attack. It seems even questioning Trump is reason for being attacked. Which brings me to my first point, the Russians.
Like some here, Pops will know, I was trained to expect the Russians to attack us. And they came very close to doing so. An Army Sergeant once said to me its not a question of 'if' they will attack, but 'when'. Despite the fall of communism, those words still haunt me. Putin is ex KGB and FSU, its successor. Given his age he was trained the west was the enemy. It now seems beyond doubt the Russians interfered with the last American election in favour of Trump. Now dont get me wrong, I have no axe to grind with US politics. I recognise however Hillary would have been a disaster. But, in my day anyone who got help from the Russians would have been out of the question as a leader. So what changed. Added to which Trumps strong and frankly childish denials in the face of mounting evidence is in itself questionable. He sounds like the kid with chocolate around his mouth denying he ate the cake.
So, the Russkies did help Trump get elected. Why?
If your not going to reply in a civil and constructive manor dont bother. I will just remove it without reading it fully.

Well, I'm not going to rabidly defend any political figure. In light of the terror attack murders in NYC, there isn't much about Trump and Russia in the news today. The most recent news I recall about it was that the evil hillary was the puppet master in the situation, but around here we all know that the media loves to poke at Trump as frequently as possible too, so I don't know if we should believe anything we hear on the news; a lot of rumors have been going around for over a year now. One thing I agree with Trump about is the real possibility of fake news.
In my part of the US, most people have adopted a 'wait and see' about what is true. Oddly, the stock market is strong and holding since Trump was elected, that's one measure of confidence in this country.

Thanks pinecone. I agree with the wait and see approach. I cant help but worry about what the Russians are up too. Its as if everyone has forgotten what they are. Suddenly they are OK guys who would never do such a thing. They are not and are as dangerous today as when they paced nuclear missiles on Cuba. We have regular incursions of Russian bombers along the edge of UK airspace, and regularly scramble fighters to intercept them. Russian warships and subs are doing the same things. These are dangerous people and I dont know why people in the west are not seeing it.
I dont give a hoot about Hillary, not interested, but that the Ruskies may have engineered Trumps win, that bothers me a lot. Ask yourself a question, whether you think they did or not, why would they? Follow the thought and you end in a dark place.

I neglected to mention that Trump recently declared he wouldn't tell the media any of his military plans, despite putting everything else on twitter. I expect we will know when to be concerned.

My personal opinion of Trump is another issue. My main concern is the Russian involvement. Having said that, my own opinion is not good. I hope I am proved wrong.

President Trump is crass, obnoxious, intelligent, and experienced. Somewhat a Teddy Roosevelt reincarnated. I think most of his announcements and tweets are carefully crafted as bait. The normal news one gets is biased very heavily against Trump and only slightly less towards the Republican Party. I'm running out of salt. imprimis.hillsdale.edu/2016-election-demise-journalistic-standards/Pops

President trump is a master at "bear baiting". He seemed to admire Putin for being a strong leader(as opposed to the limp wristed pussy in the White House) prior to being elected. Since he was elected Trump has done about all he can to strengthen our military and our standing in the world.

A very sensitive issue in the US. I dont know Trump, I do know people. I remember a news clip of I think a Washington dinner when Barry mocked Trump who was there. The whole room was laughing, but not Trump. I think then and there he decided whatever the cost he would have Barrys job... I remember the scene and thinking, dont mock that guy....

Barry was an ass to many, he sucked at his job. He served his two terms and left, and remains in the news constantly (I suppose so everyone remains PC and cannot be called 'racist'). Sensitive, I suppose; but it is clear that gov't does whatever gov't wants to do no matter what We The People have to say about it. It's more of a media circus than anything else. The times, they are definitely a-changing. Oh, and allegedly the antifa-driven civil war begins this weekend.

As expected. The world does seem on a fast track to a place I dont like. Increasing control and pressure. To register a gun club in the UK currently costs a fee of about £85.00. New proposals increase this to over £1000.00. I went into the bank a month ago to deposit some money in my daughters account, help her out a bit. I was told I wouldn't be able to do that in future? Why not? Money laundering regulations they said. We dont know where the money came from, but a transfer from account account was fine. The money laundering is just an excuse to increase control over us. When they banned handguns here in the UK they said it was to reduce handgun use in crime. There was almost no legally owned handguns used in crime, plus the use of handguns in crime has increased hugely since the ban. The ban was never about crime reduction, it was about control.
I dont like this modern world. I dislike conspiracy theories as a rule, but I wonder today..... Whats really going on?
