I've been weaving copper lately, a strangely gratifying creative activity that lets me check out for a while. The thin wires are a bit thicker than sewing thread. I dip them in a solution to make the pieces look like old pennies, I like the look. Attachment Deleted

It's just a dab of liver of sulphur in warm water. I dip the piece, then neutralize it in baking soda water, then rinse, then back in the LoS until I get a nice color. Lots of fun!

I started making more copper weaves, so much fun. The sea glass is from Lake Superior, I'm always looking for glass with writing on it and finally scored one!

I work with wire a little. I've invented a coiled wire component that I use in crystal suncatchers and door/window hangings. Will try to remember to post pics.

I like copper, I find pieces of solid copper wire in the street sometimes. Last spring I went hiking in a local nature preserve and found a ten foot length of thick copper. I can pound that flat and use it to make other things, I should fabricate a spoon or something, haha. (This is pretty much the only use I get out of that jeweler's degree lately.)

You have a jeweler's degree? Wow!
I studied dental lab technology and learned to cast metal. did some jewelry. Here's a picture of the gold cartouche I made for my Ma-in-law. It's her name in Japanese katakana.

Nice.
I do have the degree, but the jobs were abysmal so I have an office job. I was not willing to bring my own bench and all my tools, dress in 'formal wear' and torch solder/polish/acid burn things, then scrub the floor for $6/hour. The internship I had before graduating was in a secure building lost wax casting molds for a guy that was just about to be investigated for embezzlement by the feds. I wrote up my internship paper, quit, and graduated early. I hated commuting to Minneapolis every day.

Minnesota is a scary place these days, huh? I have a friend who lives in Litchfield and she's trying as hard as she can to get her house sold and move to South Dakota. I wish I could join her there. I live in Washington, about 65 miles from Seattle, and I really want to get out of this state.
Here's the photo of one of my coiled wire components. This is the funnest thing I've done in ages! Your work is so organic. I've shown earrings from these components and been told they were "too pretty".

MN is stupid, the liberal freaks are wrecking the metro area. The strangest side effect of this year's chaos is that the housing prices are still high, or are higher. The two houses on my end of the block sold in March at the highest prices I've seen in this part of town, I've been here 25 years and grew up one town east of here (I'd like to move out of town but refuse to pay inflated prices). It's nuts.
I have all sorts of creative hobbies, I especially love knitting. I'm working on improving my sewing skills, I bought a lot of thrift clothing to remodel over the past couple of years, to make unique items. I need to make time to create art or I go a bit off the rails.

I spent most of the last year and a half taking care of my husband as his Parkinson's progressed and so no time for creating. Just starting to feel the creative fire again, seven months after placing hubby in a care facility.
What kind of sewing machine do you have?
