On special occasions (probably driven by necessity) it was a Rabbit Stew, called Hasenpfeffer, by grandmother. Otherwise it was a turkey or a baked portion of an unfortunate hogg from the feed lot. I've always been curious about a Christmas Goose, as mentioned by Dickens. Where would one find a roasting goose these days?

I like to take a swig from a carton of eggnog straight out of the fridge. I love to bake, but I hold back during the holidays or I'd be stuck with a ton of baked goods and my arteries would clog.

Eggnog! Next to bacon, it's my kryptonite. Opps. Oh Brother! Shouldn't have mentioned that. . . . Thanksfully, it's only available at certain times each year, usually when I am far away from sources. Sorta 'two-weeks from anywhere', if you know what I mean. .. ... .. .. ... ............

Oh it was on the shelves before Halloween this year, for some reason. I'm on my second quart of the year. The very best is Watkins vanilla.

Yes. Grandmother scorned McCormak flavorings. "Watkins is the best, it's real vanilla." she always said. I got to stir, and carefully lick the spoons.

Watkins is everywhere now, I used to have to find vanilla on my travels due to the salesmen being based somewhere else, but now products are right in the stores. The eggnog is my favorite nog.

I don't drink. Not really a "teatotaler" - don't have anything against booze or people that do drink, but mostly don't like the taste. And hate the feeling of being drunk. But about six ounces of egg nog in a glass with an ounce or so of Bailey's mixed in is SO DAMN GOOD.

I don't drink either, but one time I put amaretto in some nog, that was pretty good.

Yeah, same for the drunk-feel, a bit of a buzz was fun with friends...... or shared with a lass.

I don't drink either, but one time I put amaretto in some nog, that was pretty good. How did you get it to mix? Over Halloween, one house was giving miniatures of bourbon to the adults. Hell, if it's free, I'm gonna take it. So along about he 3 or the 4 of November I bought a half gallon of nog at Publix, and poured a little Woodrich Reserve in it. It would not mix. Just floated on top. I could not stir it in, or nothing. Baileys, on t'other hand, is a cream-based liquor, and it mixes with egg nog easily.

Gosh, I don't even remember, I was underage and I got sort of crocked on it, I don't suppose it mattered if it mixed in! It was a work party, naturally I had to work the next morning at 5:00 (I was a kennel attendant at the local veterinary office) and the party hostess had a German shepherd which sneaked up and goosed me.

We would often mix amaretto into coffee. Just enough for flavor.
Another Christmas morning tradition began when a cousin brought a couple of bottles of champagne and fresh orange juice. "Refreshing AND bubbley"!
