Sold a couple guns at the Knob Creek Machinegun Shoot last weekend so I've got a few $$ for another project. It's going to be an 1895 Chillean Mauser in 6.5X55 Swedish. I've got a barrel and an action is on the way from a Gunbroker seller. Hoping to put it in a nice walnut stock. Pics to follow !!! JR

Here's a pictuer of the action. It's a 93 or 94 Ludwig Lowe small ring action. It's already had the bolt handle modified for scope use and it has a pair of Weaver mounts installed. It still needs some clean-up and refinishing. JR

Well it's finished. Had to open up the last 4 inches of the barrel barrel channel as the Swede military barrel is a much heavier profile than a sporter. The bolt turned out beautifully. Put an inexpensive Tasco scope on it for now. Weather permitting I'lll get it test-fired, boresighted and zeroed tomorrow. JR

Weather was lousy today- heavy rain. Changed out the scope to an Intensity Optics 3X9X42 fully multi-coated optic and start bore-sighting it using a Tasco outfit I have. I may need to shim one of the rings to get it on target for the elevation. Maybe tomorrow. Eddien , all I have as far as equipment are hand tools , some finish chambering reamers, gages, a dremel, and an old Craftsman wood lathe( used for removing the military step from surplus Mauser barrels and polishing them). I've picked this stuff up over the last 15 years. Really would love to get a metal working lathe but being retired that's probably not in the cards. JR

JR It's not the tools that make you a gun smith, it's your talent and hard work. You are a craftsman and really a type of artist. You are just another example of the talent and unique abilities we have here on our forum. I am like a kid in a candy store here. I just like to talk and listen, you people really know guns. Like any coach, I am basically a good observer, and half-ass communicator.

Well, I was able to get it a preliminary zero today after I cleaned out the gutters--Yuck !! This is going to be a great shooting rifle. I changed out the scope for an Intensity 2.8X10X44 with fully multicoated lenses that I had taken off a rifle I will probably sell. Took 14 rounds total. the 3 round group pictured is still a little high. The 1st 2 are about 1/2 inch apart and the three shot group is about 1-3/4. I'll need to load up some more before the next session. JR

Bought a 7.62 Nato small ring Mauser carbine barrel off one of those auction sites, so I may get something built with the action at the beginning of this thread. Waiting for the barrel to come in. JR

I've installed the barrel and cold blued the barrel and receiver. Need to re-finish an old stock I've got on hand and work up some reduced power loads for it as it's a small ring action. Here's a couple pics so far. JR
