I don't have a ton of shotgunning experience, but I have shot a couple of 'tactical' short barreled 12ga. shotguns that were painful. I am completely surrounded by firearms when I sleep, it's sort of nice.

That is a nice looking shotgun. That reminds me, I do need to get my Model 12 in for repair.
We are getting reports from all over the country this morning that cell systems are down and two different radio comm systems have experienced jamming. The date today is 15 July.

There is some spooky stuff going on, it seems. I find it odd that I only saw one blog that mentioned NICS being offline; the NICS site said something about canceling a phase 1 upgrade yesterday, which does not explain the system being down yesterday.

'Function instead of fancy' pinecone. Guns can do either, or both, but I will take function first every time. Good choice.

I admit that I can't stop staring at the stock, I have a weak spot for nice woodgrain and that's where fancy fits in, I suppose. I'm going to take the new shotgun out this weekend, can't wait!

Well, the new shotgun and I got acquainted today at the trap stand, I have my shotgunning confidence back! I shot 20/25, my best score yet.

Very nice Sportsman 48! I have one myself that belonged to my Grandpa. It has seen a lot of field use over the years and is the gun I took my first deer with. Mine doesn't have the poly choke though and is a full choke model. I really like old guns in general and especially old shotguns.

Thanks Red, that is my old 72 F350 that I keep around for hard chores.

Lately, I am working on refinishing the stock on the '48 I bought last summer, since it was chipped and scratched and I shot it during a thunderstorm last summer. Yum! They rarely make stocks like they used to, I think, when I look at the stock after having been stripped of finish it is even more beautiful. It's going to get a coating of Tru-Oil and perhaps a mineral oil and beeswax treatment. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

My op only....yes to the final wax..but before, I would (hand) rub 12 15 coats of genuine Tung oil......and you dont find genuine easily like at Home Depot etc..... Very nice project.
