Indeed it is true, I survived. By mid-morning on November 1st I had about 40" of snow, it was warm morning on the 31st and then by late afternoon a slushy, heavy snow had started to fall, by late that night it was snowing inches per hour and the temperature dropped. There was an inch or more of crust underneath all the snow that stayed that entire winter, it was like driving on washboard. I was alone at the house (my parents were in Canada, so oddly knew nothing of the storm and had no snow at all) so I had to dig my way out and all the way to the barn where the barn cats were trapped inside, it took ages just to get out of the house. Even the cats were surprised and stayed in the barn.
I hope I never see that kind of weather system again, to be honest. It was a shock to see how quickly it could go from dry land to waist-deep snow, our typical snowfall amounts are a few inches to a foot at once and it settles and evaporates and melts over time. It was cold enough that year that the snow stayed nearly unmanageable through to spring. I remember there was something wrong with my car so I didn't go out much in case I got stranded. With the modern snow removal equipment we have now, the agony of it may not drag on so long, but that was the most snow I've seen in my lifetime.

Damn. And once again, I am glad I live in the south.

It happened on Colorado some years ago. Three and a half to four feet from 1pm to about 10pm. 6 hours of work, 9 hours to get home. Every weekend for ten weeks ( I counted) more came down. When the sun finally came out we were walking 5-6 feet above the ground. Since then, "snow" has been a cuss word to me. The other 's' word is nicer.

I heard CO had more snow the other day. Right now I have 2" or so on the ground, which wasn't unexpected but disappointing as the forecast was supposed to be for a mild Halloween for a change. Looks like I'll have to shovel if I can bear the 35mph wind gusts.
Happy Halloween!

I hate strong winds on cold days.

I didn't lift a finger to move snow and it's mostly gone now because MN is having a decent autumn for a change, I thought it would be below freezing overnight from here on out, but that's not the case. Yay.
