I had a stroke of luck today. I still needed a model 76 lever action Rem nylon rifle for my collection. I have several of the nylon 66s and have given one to each of my grandchildren when they reach age 10. Still have two more babies coming up and have one for each with lessons and already approved by moms and dads.
I have two of the 77s and a 12 bolt action and this morning I found a 76 lever action like new. Still in very nice condition. Momma says go ahead but this is the end of the nylon rifles now that you have all the models. I didn't tell her there are still a couple that I don't have just that I do have one of each of the actions they made. I still have the original 66 that I bought at Nevilles hardware in Evanston Wyo in 1959. When you could still buy guns as a kid.
I can't begin to count the number of rounds that ole girl has through her and she is still accurate and never fails with good ammo. She was with me during some of the coldest and wettest days of winter all through high school on my trap lines. I trapped beaver, bobcat, yotes, badgers, and occasional weasel. I even backed over her with my old 53 chevy pickup in deep snow one time. Shook her off and fired a few rounds and away we went. Often made more with my trapping than my dad did as a who highway patrolman.
Anyway. I feel real lucky to have finally found one in such good shape AND the guy was not committing rape for his asking price. UF
