Hi, When shooting at an indoor range,I notice a huge difference between 9mm and .22lr. The centerfire blast does not only appear louder (I war double hearing protection), you kind of feel the shock waves with your whole body (like on a rock concert). Th .22 is, by comparison, just a soft pop. Are there Amy centerfire calibers comparably mild like the .22 when used indoors? Thanks For More Details: Instructional Video examples(This link brings up only the master page for "Instructional Videos." Pops )

Hi Dave,
First welcome to the forum, I would suggest it is a combination of the sheer size of the round and velocity it is being propelled at. I should add that I design and manufacture suppressors so am particularly interested in the noise levels.
If you used smaller centre fire rounds like 25 ACP or 32 ACP, they are much quieter than say 9MM or 357 etc., now that said I have successfully suppressed the 45 ACP as while it is large it is relatively low velocity (sub-sonic).
When I lived in the UK many years ago we used to shoot in an indoor range and we had a chap bring Desert Eagle 50, it was just too loud to shoot indoors and quite uncomfortable whatever you did.
Cheers

You looking for a revolver or an automatic?
If an auto, then I agree with Enfield about the 32 ACP.
If a revolver, I'd suggest you look for a 32 H&R, or if no one still makes them, a 327 Federal, then shoot 32 S&W Longs in it. Very quiet, very accurate round, firing a 98 grain bullet at around 700 fps. In a Ruger Single Six-size gun, or maybe a SP101-size, it will have very little recoil.

What Alpo says is right on IMO.
I have an SP101 3" in 32 H&R for the very reason(s) he mentioned, quiet and no recoil. I had my gunsmith rework it and it is now my wifes carry gun and she shoots it a LOT. However, I owned and operated the first indoor range in Az for more than 20 yrs. I very well remember the first 44 mag. DE that came in to my range. It was more than an eye opener, it cleaned out your sinuses if you were in the range wit it. But back to you query, I'm not sure you will find any centerfire handgun that is anywhere near as quiet as the 22LR. That little round has no muzzle blast from the escaping gasses that centerfire guns have. I'm certain the "feeling" you experience when someone fires one of the larger calibers is the pressure wave eminating from the spent gasses leaving the muzzle.

.38spl would do the trick. 9mm is a sharp cracker anyway.
Enfield... .50 Desert Eagle in the UK! Whats that about? Maybe other issues? I dont get the power thing with handguns. Handguns are a compromise, portability against range power and accuracy. Trying to make the handgun into a cannon, while fun gets old fast. Painful and expensive things. Never got it.
