Had this one in the works for a while. Started with a salvaged drill rifle receiver and sourced parts from a variety of sources : a repairable cracked stock and a good 2 groove barrel and a Weaver K4 scope from ebay, a parts kit from Sarco. I installed and headspaced the barrel, repaired and refinished the stock and had my local gunsmith install a scope mount. It's been pretty much complete for almost a year. Finally took it out and got the scope pretty much zeroed . Fired 10 rounds total , 2 at a time. All were within 1/2 inch. Here's a couple pictures.

I need to get on my 03A3. I have a nice one, but the chamber is just barely over sized. It shoots GI ammo just fine, but bulges the primers on commercial ammo. I'm tempted to just shoot GI and then reload those for regular use, but that is not the "proper" solution. I haven't found anybody who is willing to do a barrel replacement and rechamber for a decent price.

If its a headspace issue a smith can set the barrel back .

I think that also, but every smith I've talked to so far (all 3) said new barrel. It is accurate and the muzzle is tight, so I'm not satisfied with what advice I'm getting so far. I don't have chamber gauges for that cartridge any more. I've been thinking on that just to see how far out it is. Either that or cast the chamber and have at it with a mic.

If you don't want to invest in a headspace gauge set take the firing mechanism out of the bolt. Then take an unfired factory cartridge and put a couple thicknesses of masking tape over the case head. 2 thicknesses is approximately 2 thousandths of an inch and depending on the particular rifle head space can be up to 6 thousandths of an inch or more so add until the bolt closes tight. This will give you an idea of where you are at. Remember that military chambers are sometimes on the long side to allow for dirty combat conditions. I probably wouldn't have anything done unless its well over 6 thicknesses. My 30-06 gauge set measures .011 longer between a go and a no go and another .oo5 for a field gauge (its an old Herters set), that's 16 thousandths. If you reload you could just neck size the cases. I have never had to use more than 6 thicknesses of tape on an old worn mauser. Hope this helps. Its hard to find a smith anymore who knows how to do a complex procedure or is willing to take the time. That's why I've self taught myself to do as much as I do.

Not yet. The fact that it fires GI just fine but bulges or pops primers on commercial tells me it is only a little out of proper dimensions. I probably won't get time or opportunity to dig it out for a couple of months, yet. Things are just a little frantic around here just now.
