I wasn't running out of reasons, necessarily, but having one's first grandson opens up a whole new vista of creativity! This is his first "drag-around" quilt. My daughter found the pattern for the triangles, and chose the colors and their placement. Now that he's several weeks old, he's enjoying the clean, crisp colors, shapes, and contrasts. I hope he enjoys many years of snuggling with it

With that quilt, and Granny and Pawpaws love, and the added fact Iv'e already allowed a cuter baby than me at that age....what a start !

Excellent work. But whats a 'drag around' quilt. One you drag around with you, or drag around yourself?

By drag around, I'm sure she means as in a security blanket or such, that many kids get an attachment to or a blankie that becomes a favorite for the couch, car, floor etc.....also am glad you had such a good visit....

shooteruk, 1shot has it right about a "drag-around quilt" being blanket that a child carries around for comfort, security, etc. I made him 2 other quilts that were extremely labor-intensive (shown below) that were NOT for that purpose, but rather to hang as decoration. This one he can use to his heart's content...and when it wears out, I'll be happy to make another.
_
These animals were made by sewing pieces of fabric (some as small as 1/2" x 1/2") onto a paper pattern foundation. When the block is finished, the paper is torn away and the borders are added, etc. Time-wise...the bear's cream snout area, the bluebird's eye area, and just the beak area of the cardinal took 1.5 hours each. Measurement-wise, each wall hanging is about 15" x 35".
