I have a minor story, re hard to find parts. In the mid east way back I had a Car 15. The little round wheel thing that adjusts windage on the rear sight had a bit piece missing. Rather like an apple with a big bite out of it. So I was in Phoenix, Arizona, in the Scottsdale shooting club and shop and asked the assistant if they ever had such things. He went round the back and re appeared with a replacement, no charge...
Nice people.

I have, several times, machined a small part for a person who needed such. The latest episode, the part dimensions were not to be found. Luckily, the fellow had a matching pair and sent me the part and its mating holder. From that I made a copy and sent all back to him. He repaired his pistol. Later, he took the pair to a gunsmith friend. The 'smith couldn't tell which was the original and which I had machined. That puffed me up just a little. Pops

Nice one Pops. My best was a broken extractor on a Browning Hi Power. I was away from any re supply, parts etc. so found a piece of metal, a padlock hasp of about the same thickness. Using the broken one as a pattern I first hack sawed then filed a copy and drilled a small hole, which against all odds actually worked. No doubt it wouldn't last long, but at the time I was very pleased with the result. And maybe just a little surprised.
