Red, I try very hard not to ever give empty praise--just ask my kids So I mean it when I agree with Pops: you have an eye for taking PICTURES! And if what I've heard from other picture-takers in the past is true, you're in good company; i.e., it often does take MANY shots before getting that "one." Please keep at it and continue to share as you care to; I, for one, really appreciate your talent.

Maybe if he started taking pictures of what the English call "birds," he would get better even faster, Pops, especially if they're cute and sexy.

It might even be fun if I don't get many good shots. I also think I may need a new eye exam, I think my vision has changed. I notice it more when I use film, digital cameras make taking pictures (that are focused) much easier. Many times I just scan areas and objects and see what the camera focuses on. I do appreciate the encouragement. Almost everyone around here thinks I 'waste' my time taking too many pictures. It would be so much fun if I had somebody to go with me to take pictures. Things are always better with people you like to be around.

A kataba worm and a bushy-tailed tree rat, but what's the bird? I thought Mockingbird, but the tail's too long.

Brown dragonfly on a hosta leaf in my front yard, right below the American flag. Farm field, western side of relatives' property. There are small storm clouds and interesting skies today. MN is strange looking from the sky, all the roads were plotted in grids around sections of land.

Interests and activities outside the immediate needs of the individual are what make us human. Without them, we are no more than programmed robots.

Thanks Yall', I really appreciate it. I take thousands of pictures and every once in a while I get lucky. The last two lens' I bought sure help me. I wish I was rich and could afford some expensive ones. I hear you. Thing is, like guns expensive equipment will give you an edge, but its 95% the shooter. My point is, a top pro photographer will do far better with an average camera and lens than a poor photographer will with the best and most expensive gear. Your pics are excellent, and I did a side course in photography when a young student, so must have some idea. No prizes for guessing what subjects were popular with the class!! Clue: It wasn't fruit.... BTW, 'get lucky'? I hate that. Like a sniper gets lucky shot? Funny, the more he practices the luckier he seems to get?

I also only show my best pictures, 99.8% are never shown. My instincts are getting better, and I am improving, but I am also realistic. I belong to a couple of photography forums, so I am very humbled by their pictures, but it also helps me learn and get good ideas.

Lilacs are set for another bloom! They smell so nice. Really nice shot, I have great trouble catching them in focus, they usually move around too fast for me to get in focus. Lately I have been trying out my hand at black and white with mixed results, mostly too dark.

This was the one out of 12 that was clear, I had to stalk those little critters until they sat for a second! I really like my new camera, it allows me to zoom in from a distance, but I have a little trouble keeping steady; good thing digital shutter speed is super fast.
I really like black and white, I started out on black and white, and I probably like sepia even more. It is not easy though.

Some of my best shots have been black and white, but I am way out of practice.

Overcast days make excellent photos. I need to practice with sepia and black & white, and I need to use one of the tripods. It didn't take me long to love digital cameras, it's so easy to throw away the mistakes. The new camera is more capable than I am.
