Oh, Alpo. it was so bizarre to go through dementia with my husband! I was amazed at how much of the old, old stuff that he retained while becoming totally unable to operate a TV remote or his computer or phone. Just bizarre. Just watch out for that good brain of yours. One thing that I warn everyone about is that there are still doctors prescribing certain medications that are causing or exacerbating dementia when given to elderly people! One class of drugs called anticholinergics are really starting to show up in the medical literature as having this effect. That's what happened to my husband.

I have been going to doctors many years. Many broken bones, sicknesses, all kinds of stuff happens to me. one thing I have learned is: As smart as doctors are, many don't know much about drugs. If I get a new drug or want to know about one I ask a Pharmacist. When I was a kid I would pass out, so they gave me anti-seizure drugs. They gave me 1500 milligrams of Dilantin a day, it's a narcotic. I was stoned and it had weird effects on me.

But hey, big p HARMa keeps getting richer and richer. Isn't that what really matters?

Best man
The best man, as everyone knows, stands next to the bridegroom and hands him the ring . Very Important Job.
That is not his original job.
Back in the long ago time, when bridegrooms frequently saw a young lady that they wished to take to wife but her family would disagree (think Romeo and Juliet), he would just grab her and take her away to his place where he would marry her.
The male members of the bride's family would quite often take offense at this kidnapping of one of their young women, and they would form up a small army of brothers and cousins and uncles, and go to get her back.
The best man at the wedding was actually the best man . The best fighter. His job was to hold off the brothers and cousins and uncles and daddy until the priest said "man and wife". Once the wedding was over, the young lady was no longer the cousin/niece/daughter/sister of the pursuing family . She was now the wife of the other guy, and her father/uncle/cousin/brother had no say about anything.
So the groom would pick the best fighter he had - his "best man" - and station him at the church doors to make sure that the girl's family did not get in and interrupt the wedding.
I have been a best man one time. I took my responsibility seriously. I handed them the rings, but I was wearing a gun. Just in case her family showed up uninvited.

Proof
Back in the olden times, people who made alcoholic beverages tended to water them down. This allowed them to sell more.
The people were annoyed with this because they weren't getting as drunk as they thought they should be for the amount of money they spent. So they came up with an idea.
If you take 1 ounce of gunpowder and pour 1 ounce of alcohol on it, and touch a flame to it, and it will burn, that is PROOF that it is at least 50% alcohol. If it is less than 50% - if it's more than half water - the powder will be too wet to ignite.
So this was 100% proof that it was at least 50% alcohol.
And that's why the proof on booze is twice as much as the alcohol content. 86 proof booze is 43% alcohol. Wild Turkey 101 bourbon is 50 and a half percent alcohol. Bacardi 151 rum is 75 and a half percent alcohol.

The gridiron. Sports have different places that they're played. Tennis is played on a court, boxing is done in the ring, baseball on the diamond. And football is played on the gridiron. Why a gridiron? Simple. This is a gridiron. You set it over the fire, and you can either put your pots and pans on it or you can put the food right on it. And look at that. It looks like a football field. So they named the football field after the cooking grate.
